Our Journey

Helena River Waldorf School began with a vision and a handful of families gathered in a small parish hall in Guildford in 2013.

What began as a playgroup quickly became a community, then a school. Starting out in Midland, the school eventually purchased land in Hazelmere, which is now our forever home.

Over time, the Hazelmere campus has grown into a vibrant learning environment. We now operate our Early Childhood programs, Primary School and Hybrid Classes from this riverside setting.

In 2026, we repositioned our name to Helena River Waldorf School, honouring our place within the international Waldorf movement and affirming our commitment to an education that nurtures head, heart and hands.

From a parish hall playgroup to a registered school, our story is one of steady growth, resilience, and community spirit.

From little things, big things grow (and the journey continues).

School Governance

Helena River Waldorf School is governed by a Board that meets monthly and operates in accordance with the school’s constitution.

The Board ensures the school’s compliance with all relevant legislation and regulatory requirements. It oversees risk management and financial stewardship, while setting and safeguarding the strategic direction of the school.

Board members are elected at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) and serve a two-year term. All members of the Association are invited to attend and vote at the AGM.

Waldorf Education

Helena River Waldorf School is part of a vibrant network of Steiner schools across Western Australia and throughout Australia.

While every Steiner or Waldorf school is independently founded, governed and shaped by its own community, each belongs to a broader, collaborative movement committed to educating children in alignment with the developmental insights and pedagogical principles of Rudolf Steiner. This shared foundation connects schools within a worldwide “family” dedicated to nurturing balanced, capable and socially conscious young people.

We welcome passionate educators and regularly seek both permanent and relief staff to support our programs. Join Helena River Waldorf School and become part of our vibrant, growing community with a teaching job on our Hazelmere campus.
