Inviting Imagination To Blossom At Playgroup

Our Playgroup welcomes children aged 1-4 years into a warm, simple and beautiful environment inspired by Steiner’s early childhood principles. A gentle morning rhythm of story, song, verse and seasonal celebration helps children feel secure and connected. Natural, handmade toys encourage imaginative, open-ended play, while daily activities such as baking and tidying foster social skills including sharing, waiting and gratitude.

Playgroup offers an intimate and meaningful experience for young children, while also providing parents with the opportunity to connect with other families, engage in craft activities, and deepen their understanding of the Steiner approach to early childhood.

A Wholesome Early Childhood Group For Parents And Little Ones

Once a week, our families step into the peaceful, welcoming space of Playgroup; a gentle sanctuary where children feel safe to explore, play and simply be. The morning is guided by a trained Playgroup Leader, who holds a calm and nourishing rhythm that allows the children to “breathe in and breathe out” through the flow of the session.

Our morning rhythm unfolds as follows:

Arrival

Families arrive and are warmly welcomed into the room, settling into their familiar and special space.

Pack Away & Bread Making

Our “Dusty Gnome” song signals pack-away time. We then wash our hands and begin making bread together. The children delight in shaping their dough, which is later baked and shared warm at the end of the session.

Circle Time

We gather on the mat for seasonal songs and verses, a much-loved highlight of the morning.

Morning Tea

After lighting a candle and singing a blessing, we quietly enjoy seasonal fruit together.

Outdoor Play

Time outside to move, explore and connect with nature.

Story & Farewell

We return indoors for a beautiful, magical story, followed by our Goodbye Song and the sharing of our freshly baked bread.

This gentle and consistent rhythm creates a sense of security and belonging, allowing both children and parents to relax into the morning together.

Qualified Playgroup Leaders

Helena River Waldorf School’s Playgroup in Perth is led by highly experienced Waldorf educators who gently weave their knowledge and understanding into each session. Through conversations, observation and shared experiences, our qualified playgroup leaders help children settle into the rhythm of Waldorf.

A Safe Space To Build Community

Playgroup isn’t just for the children; it’s for parents too. It’s a chance to meet other families, share stories and build genuine connections. Along the way, you’ll naturally learn more about the Waldorf approach and pick up simple, practical ideas to support your child at home.

Playgroup Times

Playgroup runs in two groups on Fridays during term, either:

  • 9:00 am–11:00 am, or

  • 11:30 am–1:30 pm

Morning tea is provided.
